Manually Installing Your Modem in

  1. If Windows 95 correctly identifies your modem, you are ready to install your communications software and you can skip the rest of this document. If Windows 95 did not correctly identify your modem, continue with step 2.

  2. Although Windows 95 is much more robust at detecting IRQ conflicts, it appears to be much less forgiving when hardware devices are not configured properly . Make sure the modem is set to its own unique COM port & IRQ setting.

  3. Open the Control Panel (Start/Settings/Control Panel).

  4. Select Add New Hardware and click Next.

  5. Click No and then click Next.

  6. Select Modems.

  7. Click Don't detect my modem: I will select from list and then click Next.

  8. Select the model modem you have (or the closest to it).

Note:As new products become available, we create configuration files (.INF> for use with Windows 95. These are not always available the same day the product is released. You should periodically check the file sections for updates. If you retrieve one of these updated files, copy the file to the windows\inf directory. This will need to be done via the DOS prompt on most systems since the .INF directory is typically marked "hidden". At the C: prompt, type cd C:\WINDOWS\INF and hit ENTER. Then type, for example, COPY C:\MDMUSRVI.INF (use the appropriate INF file name and directory after COPY) and hit ENTER.
